Showoff Sessions: What are they?
Mooregrace regularly hold General Auditions known as "SHOWOFF SESSIONS" open to students. This is a great way for students to get their face in front of Casting Directors who are regularly on the lookout for fresh new talent. We understand that some parts of the industry are difficult to get your head around when you are starting out, and we want you to be as well informed as possible, so we've compiled some information about Showoff Sessions in order to help you understand them better.
What is a Show-Off Session?
A showoff session is a general audition where actors get the opportunity to showcase their talent to a Casting Agent (otherwise known as a Casting Director). Generally we hold Showoff Sessions in groups of two, so each person auditioning has a scene partner.
What happens during the audition?
Each audition is a little different, however generally at the beginning each actor will introduce themselves to the Casting Agent and one of the actors will hop in front of the camera, with their scene partner standing off camera (each actor will get their chance to audition on camera, but generally they do so one at a time). Each actor generally gets two chances to act out their scene on camera and will be given direction from the Casting Agent in between scenes (it's really important they each actor listens and takes this direction on board!).
Once each actor has had their chance in front of the camera, the Casting Agent will wish you well and you will be able to leave the audition room.
What is a Casting Agent/Director?
Casting Directors facilitate the casting of actors for roles in film or television. They work closely with film and television directors to understand their requirements, and from this, they suggest actors for each role, as well as arranging and conducting interviews and auditions.
How early should I arrive at the Show-Off session?
We ask all actors to be at the studio no later than 40 minutes before your scheduled audition time. This allows enough time for you to meet with your scene partner and have a good rehearsal before you head into the audition. It's important that you get this time with you scene partner so that you are prepared.
Do I have to stay after my session?
No. Auditions last for approximately 15 minutes after which you are free to go (Kids - just make sure you tell us that you are leaving with a guardian before you head off!)
Can parents stay and watch?
Yes. Parents are welcome to sit in the foyer and watch the live feed from the studio. Depending on the preference of the casting director audio may or may not be turned up in the foyer
Should I bring my USB?
Yes! If you would like to watch your performance back, bring your USB and we will record it for you!
Am I auditioning for a specific part?
No. Showoff Sessions are GENERAL auditions. This means that it is not for a specific part. It provides an opportunity for the casting director to meet you, assess your acting ability and keep you in mind for any appropriate roles that come up in the future. Although you are not auditioning for a specific part, this is a serious opportunity for you to get your face in front of people who are casting roles right now!
Do I have to have an Agent to participate in the Show-Off Session?
You do not have to have an agent to successfully participate in this show-off session. The Casting Agent will simply note that you are a FREELANCE actor and will contact you (via Mooregrace) directly if they wish to see you for a specific role in the future.
